Veterans Academy
Located at a former Army post in the Presidio of San Francisco, Swords to Plowshares’ Veterans Academy offers a true homecoming for our country’s soldiers. At this one location, previously homeless veterans can live in a supportive residential community, participate in group and individual counseling, and expand their skills with academic instruction and vocational training. Men and women who were trained for war can now be trained in the skills necessary for economic independence and personal growth.
Veterans from Swords to Plowshares’ programs can partake in the educational opportunities offered at the Academy’s Computer Learning Center. Participants improve their reading, writing and math skills through class instruction, peer tutoring, and self-paced educational software. The classroom achievement helps veterans develop self-esteem and skills for re-entry into the workforce.
