Swords to Plowshares is one of the few organizations in the country that provides free legal consultation and attorney representation for veterans seeking assistance for VA benefits and military discharge upgrade cases. We have provided this service to veterans in the San Francisco Bay area for over 40 years. Our Pro Bono Legal Program was launched in 2013 to expand our capacity and serve more veterans in need. Our program has now grown to include over 40 Bay Area law firms and corporations, including over 300 volunteer attorneys to take on VA disability and military discharge upgrade cases. Thanks to the dedication of our Pro Bono partners, we were able to provide a record-breaking 1,077 veterans with free legal services in 2015. Last year alone, our pro bono attorneys secured over $2.5 million in lifetime benefit awards for Bay Area veteran clients. Since the program's launch we have helped thousands of veterans and secured tens of millions of dollars of lifetime benefits for homeless and low-income veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area.In honor of National Volunteer week, we would like to recognize all the firms, corporations, and volunteer attorneys who have taken on cases, staffed legal clinics, and continue to participate in Swords to Plowshares' Pro Bono Program. We are exceedingly grateful to have their support and help while we continue to help Bay Area veterans most in need.
