"Building myself up with the help from Swords to Plowshares allowed me to be who I am today."
Del is a force for change in San Francisco. A Vietnam veteran who served stateside to support injured troops returning from combat, Del has spent a lifetime caring and advocating for others in crisis. A single father of two daughters, Del moved to the Bay Area so they could be closer to his family, but this move was not easy. Del found himself struggling with addiction and homelessness. He connected with Swords to Plowshares and overcame his addiction. For over 30 years, Del has been a tireless advocate for the Tenderloin, unhoused populations, and veterans. Del founded The Tenderloin Walking Tours and Code Tenderloin, both efforts aimed at improving the lives of those residing in his beloved neighborhood. He is also co-chair of San Francisco's Local Homeless Coordinating Board.
