Veteran-specific housing requires a culturally-informed approach and a strong commitment to housing residents who experience multiple physical, mental, and behavioral health needs. This means those involved in program design, staffing, and operations recognize they must do more than simply shelter individuals—they must build a community in which residents can access services and support. Being aware of military and veteran culture, common health concerns, resources, as well as tenets of trauma-informed care will improve outcomes for residents and staff.
